About us
Megunto is a learning platform for oral exams. The app asks questions, learners answer freely by voice or text and get immediate feedback, just like in a real exam. We founded Megunto in Leipzig in 2025 and started out in medicine.
Why Megunto exists
In medicine, oral exams decide entire stages of training, from the first state exam to the final one and the exam for the additional qualification in emergency medicine. Yet answering freely is hardly ever practised, because every round of questions needs someone to ask, listen and assess. You can do multiple choice alone, but not speaking freely.
Tim knows this from anesthesiology and emergency medicine: recognizing knowledge is different from putting it into precise, structured words under pressure. Megunto makes exactly this kind of practice possible, any time and without a teacher sitting next to you.
Who is behind Megunto
We are a small team from Leipzig with backgrounds in medicine, computer science and linguistics.
Founder and CEO
Tim Berthold
Tim is a doctor and also works as an emergency physician in Saxony. He is responsible for the content and writes many of the questions himself, often between two shifts.
Co-founder and CTO
Emma Haley
Emma is a computer scientist and linguist. She built the AI logic behind Megunto so that assessment follows the curriculum, not the other way around.
App development
Sebastian
Sebastian builds the app learners use to practise in the browser, on Android and on iOS.
We are supported by doctors from clinical practice and teaching, such as senior physician Dr. Martin Neef for the ECG course, as well as a network of partners and advisors.
How our content is made
In an oral exam, what counts is whether an answer is correct. That's why nothing goes into the app unchecked.
Close to the real exam
Questions are based on exam content and past exam reports. Our exam simulations are put together the way oral exams are actually conducted.
Curated by doctors
AI helps us draft, doctors make the call. Every question and every reference answer is reviewed before it goes into the app.
Fixed marking criteria
For every question it is defined what a good answer has to include. The feedback measures the answer against this standard instead of judging freely.
Your own content for organizations
Schools and education providers can add their own questions and reference answers and keep full control over their teaching content.
Who Megunto is made for
Medical students
Preparation for the oral first state exam and the final state exam.
Doctors
Preparation for the exam for the additional qualification in emergency medicine at the state medical association.
Vocational schools
Oral practice in training programs such as paramedics or nursing, also outside class.
Education providers and publishers
The platform under your own brand, filled with your own content.
What makes Megunto different
Free answers instead of multiple choice. There are no answer options. Learners have to put their knowledge into their own words, typed or spoken.
Feedback on content and expression. The feedback shows what was missing from the answer and how it could be clearer.
No minute quotas. Learners practise as often and as long as they need for the exam.
A complement to teaching. Megunto doesn't replace teachers, but it makes sure a lot more practice happens between lessons.
Scientifically evaluated
We are having Megunto studied at two universities to see whether it helps in real exams. In Magdeburg, around 100 medical students used it to prepare for the oral M3 exam in anesthesiology. In Leipzig, a randomized study with around 300 students in the dissection course has been running since April 2026.
